Cultural Arts

At Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts, our classes aim to provide the students with professional tutors and proper facilities to learn technique, movement and choreography that progress from beginner to more advanced levels. Pacific Islanders possess their own forms of history passed down through chants, songs and oral tradition, therefore Matavai tutors strive to teach students in weekly one hour sessions the meanings behind songs, basic language, history and legends.

Cultural Diversity

There is no age limit to the classes, and we strongly encourage students to enrol at the commencement of each term to get the most out of the classes. Matavai is a family oriented center, where children and parents learn side by side. We strongly encourage enrolling into classes as knowledge of Pacific history and culture contributes significantly to the empowerment of our Pacific Island youth in Australia.

Art and performing arts is an important aspect of our teachings. In learning the dances, songs, and technique, students connect with a heritage that is thousands of years old. This assists students in their creative ability to create their own dances, and express their own personal stories through cultural arts.
